About Us
How’doo (traditional Westmorland dialect for “How are you?”)
Hello, we are the Allen family and have lived at Barker Knott Farm for the previous 20 years. The farm is a traditional Lake District farm situated in the glorious National Park and a 5 minute drive from Windermere Lake. Barker Knott Farm is run by my husband Andrew, myself Sue and our 2 sons James and Nathan and Granddaughter Esme plus Pip the sheepdog.
Andrew is a second-generation Lake District farmer with a passion for farming, the countryside and for chatting with visitors.
We farm sheep and rear youngstock from calves. Visitors are often thrilled to be able to help bottle feed lambs at springtime or to watch the lambs skipping and jumping amongst the wild daffodils.
Barker Knott Farm has been in a Natural England Higher Level Scheme for the previous 13 years and is farmed hand in hand with nature and the stunning surroundings. There are many varieties of fruit trees in the traditional orchards, pears, plums, apples and the famous Lyth Valley damsons which makes wonderful Damson Gin.
We have an abundance of wildlife to view and amazing sunsets.
We have received numerous comments from visitors who have said their stay at Barker Knott Farm is the closest to heaven on earth you will find.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Barker Knott Farm.
